Red Bull Formula 1 team principal Christian Horner disclosed that Max Verstappen apologized in the Spanish Grand Prix debrief room for his clash with George Russell. Verstappen, who was penalized with three penalty points and a 10-second penalty, was involved in a controversial incident where he seemingly deliberately made contact with Russell in the closing stages of the race. Despite initially resisting giving back a position to Russell as instructed by his engineer, Verstappen eventually collided with the Mercedes driver. Horner mentioned on Instagram that Verstappen acknowledged his mistake immediately after the race and expressed frustration with the missed opportunities in the race due to strategic decisions impacted by the safety car. He also highlighted the team’s determination to make improvements to the car setup and bounce back strongly in the upcoming race in Montreal.
